Laptops are normally designed for mobile and sedentary use. But how to optimize laptop battery and obtain greater autonomy when you want to travel as long as possible without having to resort to your laptop charger ?

Here are some practical tips that should help you optimize laptop battery power.

Moderate screen brightness

One of the first energy consuming elements is the screen. If you want to limit its impact, you will then have to reduce your consumption where you can. The first step is to use the keyboard shortcuts to reduce the brightness: they are different from one manufacturer to another. But usually they are represented by a full or empty sun with an arrow. Otherwise, find the battery icon in the right corner of your screen and click on it.

Turn off your screen as much as possible

When you use your laptop, there are often downtimes where you are not looking at your screen. A lit screen devours your battery quickly. You must therefore make sure to cut it as regularly as possible if you are not using it.

To do this, follow these steps:

  • Click on the small battery gauge, in the taskbar, and on “ Power and sleep settings"
  • At the top of the page, in the section Screen and " In case of battery operation, switch off after“, you put what seems to you to be the strict minimum according to your use.

Switch to airplane mode under Windows 10

To do this, simply click on the WiFi icon at the bottom right in the taskbar. At the very bottom of the window, you have a button “ Airplane mode“. Click on it. All connectivity is then deactivated and, above all, all applications requiring the network will know that they will no longer have access to the internet and will then no longer be able to update themselves.

Use battery saver

If your business requires you to stay connected, it is still possible to limit the frantic needs of your apps working in the background a bit. With this in mind, Microsoft has endowed Windows 10 of a " Battery saver"

How it works is relatively simple: when you reach a critical battery threshold, notifications and background activity are limited.

To activate it, simply go to the Settings de WindowsAnd in System, and finally in the “ Battery saver“. You can then click on “ Settings » of the energy saver » to modify the granularity of the settings but also to choose when it will be triggered. The sooner it is started, the more likely you are to extend the autonomy of your machine.
With these tips you will be able tooptimize your laptop battery and thus optimize Windows.
