Do you have a problem with your Gmail account? Do you meet some difficulties adding your Google account on your iPhone to synchronize your contacts and e-mails? Have you tried the automatic method without success?
In general, there are two ways to add a Gmail account on an iPhone : by the automatic method and by the manual method.
For some reason, the automatic method doesn't always work. However, I will show you how to add a Google account on an iPhone via the automatic method:
- Access to Settings > Mail , then tap Accounts .
- Select Add an account. Choose Google.
- Enter your Google credentials and follow the instructions.
- Activate the Google services you want (Mail, Contacts, etc.).
- Press Save.
It is possible that, despite these steps, the account is not added. If so, I suggest you try the manual method to fix this problem.
Add Google Account on iPhone Manually
To add a Google account to your iPhone manually, follow these steps:
- Access to Settings > Mail, then select Accounts.
- Select Add an account.
- touch Otherthen Add an email account.
- Enter your name, E-mail adress, your password and press Next.
- You will then need to enter some parameters, such as the address of the receiving server, which is imap.gmail.com, and the sending server, smtp.gmail.com.
- If you do not have this information, see this page and enter your Gmail address to get them.
- Then enter the required information for the receiving server and sending server, and tap Next .
- To finish, press Save to complete the configuration.
So ! By following this method, you should be able to add your google account to your iphone and sync all your contacts and emails.
It may happen that Gmail displays the message: “ Gmail is currently unavailable“. To fix this, turn Airplane Mode on, wait a few seconds, then turn it off. This action is similar to restarting your iPhone, but it is faster.
If, despite everything, you encounter difficulty configuring your Google account on your iPhone, do not hesitate to leave us a comment detailing your problem.
I tried the technique of turning airplane mode on and off to receive emails again, but it didn't work
Hello Marzloff,
I'm sorry to hear that the airplane mode technique didn't work. If Gmail displays the message "Gmail is currently unavailable", you may have entered the wrong IMAP/SMTP settings. Make sure you are using the correct IMAP/SMTP settings for Gmail. To get them, see this page: https://support.apple.com/mail and enter your Gmail address.
Hello,
I was able to add my Google account manually. But the problem is that it just offers me to synchronize emails and notes and not contacts. What can I do?
Thank you
Hello Claire,
If you manually added your Google account to your iPhone and you don't see the option to sync contacts, here are some steps you can take to fix this issue:
Delete and re-add the account:
Sometimes just deleting and re-adding the account can fix this kind of problem.
Use CardDAV:
If you are unable to sync your contacts via the standard option, you can try syncing them using CardDAV.
Server: google.com
Username: [your full Gmail address]
Password: [your Gmail password]
Description: [enter a description, for example "Gmail contacts"]
For the calendar
Caecilia & Noemie, I had the same problem and following this it worked:

Hello,
Not better. The email address used by my Google account is my work address, which is already configured to receive emails (it works), but I cannot add this Google account to display my Google Calendar in the iCal app. Ideas?
Hello, I followed the "manual" method (since the automatic one didn't work) and now my gmail account is installed but it offers me to synchronize only the "mail" and "notes" whereas my objective was to be able to save my contacts to my google account. I then tried again to add my account in automatic mode (so by clicking on the Google logo) but it still didn't work. How to do? do you have an idea?
