Prevent someone from adding you to a WhatsApp group

Tired of being added to WhatsApp groups without your consent? Want to prevent strangers from adding you to a newsgroup?

It's common for a complete stranger to add you to a group conversation without your permission. Because currently, any user with your mobile number can add you to a discussion group. This can create awkward situations, especially when you are added to a conversation with people you don't know or don't want to be in that group.

Henceforth the app offers the option to choose who can add you to group chats. To take advantage of this new option, I invite you to download the latest version of the WhatsApp messaging application.

Then to activate it, it's very simple, just:

  • Open WhatsApp and go to Settings
  • Then go to Accounts then in Policy
  • Select Groups
  • Choose which option you prefer.
    - No one (this prevents anyone from adding you to a group without an invitation)
    - My contacts (only your contacts can add you to a group without an invitation)
    - Anybody (anyone can add you to a group without an invitation)

If you really want to block WhatsApp consecutive additions, it is advisable to choose the first option.

Note that this new privacy setting is only available in a few countries at the moment, but it should be available globally in the coming weeks.
