Do you want to cut a large file into small parts to send it by email? With WinRAR, It's possible.

Sometimes it is interesting to split a file into several parts. For example: to send HD video (created, for example, with editing software) or to copy large files with a USB flash drive formatted in FAT32.

In this article, we will see how to use the "Winrar" compression / decompression software to split a file into several parts.

Cut a large file into several parts

1) start with download Winrar on your system then install it.

2) Right-click on the file to cut into several parts then, from the menu that appears, choose the Add to archive option.

3) In the window that opens, you will simply have to enter the size you want for the pieces in your archive at the bottom left. The size must be indicated in bytes: for example 20 for 000 MB chunks.

Remember to do the conversion carefully, below I have chosen to cut my file into several parts of 100 Mega Bytes (approximately). Your file is then compressed and cut into several files.

After this manipulation, the different parts are placed in the same folder as your file numbered automatically according to their order of creation. You can then transfer them more easily.

To recover the complete file, simply open one of the pieces with WinRAR and start decompressing it. Click on part number 1 and in the context menu, click on the “extract here” option. The other pieces will be automatically detected and decompressed to return you the initial large file.
