I replaced Siri with ChatGPT on my iPhone

Dernière mise à jour: 20 mai 2023

If you're like me, you've probably used Siri, Apple's voice assistant. However, despite improvements over the years, Siri isn't always able to correctly answer every question you ask it.

Fortunately, there is a more powerful alternative: ChatGPT.

In this tutorial, I will show you how I managed to replace Siri with ChatGPT on all my Apple products, like iPhone,iPad, Apple Watch and HomePod mini. Thanks to this tip, I now have a real personal assistant within earshot.

What is ChatGPT?

ChatGPT is an artificial intelligence that was developed by OpenAI. She can answer a wide variety of questions and feels like you're chatting with a human being. Unlike Siri, ChatGPT has access to all the knowledge found on the web. This technology can therefore answer complex or specialized questions.

ChatGPT can not only hold human-like conversations, but also compose:

  • Tests,
  • blogs,
  • Some poems,
  • And song lyrics.

It even provides extraordinary function of debugging and writing computer programs, which is usually accomplished by humans.

But it is worth paying attention to his answers, as they may vary depending on how you formulate your instructions.

Why did I replace Siri with ChatGPT?

Have you ever found yourself asking Siri, Apple's voice assistant, a question, only to find yourself drowning in web pages to consult by hand?

This happened to me over and over again, until I discovered ChatGPT. This artificial intelligence gives the impression of chatting with a human being who has all the knowledge of the web in memory. And the best part? ChatGPT provides immediate answers, whether you ask your questions by voice or in writing.

Also, the answers provided by Siri often seemed insufficient and even downright stupid compared to those of ChatGPT.

So no more tedious searches, thanks to ChatGPT, getting an answer has never been so simple and quick. That's why I decided to replace Siri with ChatGPT on all my Apple products.

How to replace Siri with ChatGPT?

Here are the steps to replace Siri with Chat GPT:

ChatGPT API key acquisition

To use the shortcut to call the ChatGPT API, you must have an OpenAI API key. You can get it for free by following these simple steps on the official OpenAI website:

  • Go to https://platform.openai.com to create an account or log in if you already have one.
  • Click the avatar in the upper right corner of the page, then select “View API Keys”.
  • Click the “Create New Secret Key” button on the right side of the page to generate a new API key.
  • Copy the generated API key to save it. Note that this key will only appear once. If you forget it, you will need to generate a new one.

Please also note that there is a fee to use the ChatGPT API, but the fees are minimal at $0,0020 for every 1 tokens. Each token corresponds to approximately 000 words.

Install and Configure ChatGPT Siri Shortcut to Communicate with ChatGPT on Your iPhone

Once you've created your account and obtained an API key, follow these steps to install and configure the ChatGPT Siri Shortcut:

  • Download ChatGPT Siri shortcut from the link provided And click Get Shortcut.
  • Next, paste your OpenAI API key into the text field when it appears on the screen “ Configure this shortcut"
  • Click on the button Next then the button Add this shortcut at the bottom of the screen.
  • In the Shortcuts app, long-press the ChatGPT 1.2.5 tile, then choose “Rename”. I recommend using a simpler name, like "Momo", because Siri might have trouble recognizing the default name.
  • Finally, save the changes by tapping the “Save” button in the upper right corner.

How to use ChatGPT instead of Siri?

To launch the shortcut, simply say “Hey Siri” followed by the name you chose for the shortcut. Note that if the name is too complex, Siri may not recognize it. I therefore recommend that you choose a simple and easily recognizable name.

You can also access the shortcut directly by selecting it from your home screen.

Once the shortcut is launched, you can ask your question or formulate your request to ChatGPT.

He will respond to you immediately.

It's worth noting that at the moment, Chat GPT's knowledge stops at 2021. If you ask a question about a recent event or a product released in 2022 or 2023, it won't be able to answer.

Conclusion

Replacing Siri with Chat GPT on your Apple products can allow you to have an almost immediate answer to your questions. However, it is worth checking the facts for yourself on the web, especially when using GPT Chat Answers for your work.
