Find a Gmail Android alternative is a gesture worth doing. You have to judge an Android messenger by its encryption methods, how it is funded, and where its servers are located.
If you are looking to replace gmail by secure messaging and which respects your privacy, here are some interesting options which may suit you perfectly.
Protonmail
Protonmail is an encrypted open source messaging for Android created in 2013 at CERN. This Android application offers end-to-end encryption of your email exchanges, without anyone being able to take a prying eye. The company itself is unable to read user messages.
Protonmail offers a French version with ergonomics and functionality similar to Gmail. Except that its servers are located in two locations in Switzerland, outside the jurisdictions of the United States and the European Union.
In January 2017, it had more than 2 million subscribers and more than 5 million users in November 2017.
