A proxy is a computer or module that acts as an intermediary between a web browser and the Internet. On the Internet, there are different types of proxy. The most common are HTTP proxies. They support HTTP and FTP protocols.
Proxy servers are used in particular to optimize web performance by storing copy of frequently used web pages and to enhance security by filtering out certain web content and malware. Proxy servers also enhance theuser anonymity.
How does a proxy server work?
THEuse of proxies is common to access a site reserved for certain IP adress, or to escape the HTTP filter of his company or to surf in anonymous mode.
For example, I'm at work and during my 10 a.m. break, I want to go for a little walk on Facebook, I can't display the page, because my company has just installed a firewall that prevents me from accessing it. to Facebook. Hop, I go through a small proxy and I can finally see my notifications. 🙂
Explanation:
Here is an HTTP Request without proxy:
By typing an address like https: // www.funinformatique.com / index.php, your computer will connect to the www server.funinformatique.com and ask for the index.php page.
HTTP request with proxy:
With the use of a proxy, when you type https: // www.funinformatique.com / index.php, your computer will connect to the proxy and ask it to fetch the page from the www server.funinformatique. Com.
How to use a proxy?
We will see in this article how well use a proxy under the various Internet Explorer, Firefox and Chrome browsers in order to change and modify its IP address.
To use a proxy, nothing's easier. I offer two methods:
- The first method consists on the manual proxy configuration
- The second consists of using the extension AnonymoX.
1) Manual Proxy configuration
On Firefox:
To manually configure a proxy in Firefox, nothing could be simpler.
- Go to Firefox, click on Tools, Options, click on the advanced tab and on the Network tab.
Then click on the settings button: You should have the following window on the screen:
- In the Connection Settings window, click the circle next to the Manual proxy configuration field. Enter your proxy IP address and port. In general, proxies are given in the form of IP address: Port (example: 40.72.124.20:80).
That's it, you click OK and test your proxy.
On Chrome and Internet Explorer:
If you have a Google Chrome or Internet Explorer browser:
- Go to Chrome, click on the menu icon at the top right, then click on Settings -> show advanced settings (located at the bottom of the page).
- In the Network section, click Change proxy settings. Choose the "Connections" tab and click "Network Settings" for the proxy port configuration.
Now check "use a proxy server for your LAN". Click on the Advanced button to open the window to open the ports. Finally, enter your proxy IP address and port.
2) Use of the AnonymoX extension
For the first method, we will use a extension whose name is AnonymoX.
This extension allows you to establish connections for your sites through proxies located in different countries (USA, England, Germany ... etc).
AnonymoX is available free for Firefox and Chrome. It offers you the possibility to browse the web anonymously by assigning a virtual IP address. The connection is fast and it avoids having to look for proxies.
To use it, start by downloading and installing the extension dedicated to your browser:
On restart, you have an additional icon in the menu bar of your web browser. It is from this icon that you can activate the proxy server and choose the country of your proxy, as shown in the image below:
There! You can now surf anonymously, in complete freedom and without censorship.
Advantage of a proxy
A proxy can have several advantages.
- The proxy will make you anonymous by hiding your IP address, you no longer appear with your own IP address.
- The Proxy caches the most requested pages to speed up your browsing
- The proxy allows you to access pages that are not accessible by escaping the http filter.
- The proxy gives you the possibility to browse blocked websites in your Country
Disadvantage of a proxy
- As you go through the proxy, then the latter will know all your passwords (unless you are using HTTPS / SSL).
- The proxy can modify the pages on the fly before giving them to you for example it can add an advertisement in a site that you have visited.
- Some proxy can be configured to censor sites.
Conclusion
Well, a proxy is still quite practical, you just have to choose a proxy and have confidence in the administrator of the server. You can now test whether your proxy works or not using this website: www.ipaddresslocation.org, and if you have any problems, questions or suggestions regarding the proxy, do not hesitate to ask them in the comments!
I would like to know the role of a proxy and the advantages of being in anonymous mode and what does being in anonymous mode mean?
Hello Ahmed and thank you for this article. A question torments me… Here I have Kodi on boxtv (therefore Android system) with certain add ons… Finally I would like to remain anonymous.. I have a VPN, I need a certain speed in order to be able to use my add ons… What do you advise me? Thank you for your answer?
You said that the proxy has advantages in particular it keeps the anonymity of the user.
Also the proxy saves the passwords of the user of a local machine. Can the administrator of the proxy to which the user is connected not know what the user has done on the site? case speak that the proxy can keep the anonymity of the user?
Thank you for the article but how to be sure of a proxy that it does not recover the data received? How do you analyze them? Anonymox is 100% safe and reliable?
Thank you
A proxy can be used via a specific program on its machine, and is defined in the form of an address and a port, like this: 123.456.789.10:Port. It can be free or paid. Like everything, if you want to have a fast, trustworthy (that is to say, not looking at the data passing through it) and anonymous (not providing its connection history to a third party) proxy.
However, each proxy is established in a country, and is therefore subject to the censorship of the country in which it is established. So we cannot, for example, visit Facebook using a Chinese proxy!
This article is superb man mm if I haven't tested it yet. So there you have it, a proxy can connect you to an internet and bypass whatever restrictions might prevent you from doing so. I understood the concept of the proxy but if I wanted to access the internet network in my house and thus share the conneion via my wifi to all my devices but except that I have no internet so I wondered if I installed a proxy at a friend who has the internet and from there I can also access it via my friend's connection by doing or configuring something. My question is can I do something like this if so how?
hello is this method valid for laptops
my problem is solved thanks guys
nothing to say thank you my problem is solved it's nice guys
hydemyass is good too (plus it changes proxy every x seconds if you want)
but how do you know that your proxy list is not rotten, if to hide your ip, you send your password to people by recommendable?
are there really reliable proy anywhere? or can we use those of hydemyass or other vpn + official with this method (lighter)?
Personally I use the Hidester proxy, it is apparently one of the most reliable that we can find.
thank you for the info
You also have the one from VPNmag which is not bad.
yes he is fine.
Hi
How to make the IP address different each time
please
in hidemyass, there is an express option: it changes server every 5 mins (adjustable)
Bjr, even if the subject is old I hope I will receive an answer, I installed anonymox but the video I watch does not scroll well it stops every 10 seconds what can I do to watch tf1 or other French channel from the USA, the French channels restrict the viewing of video and am fed up with TV amerloque, help
hello everyone, how to find the ip address of a proxy. thank you for your answers
Ahmed you are still there….what do you think of TOR!
Why does your site page regularly return to the top?
Ahmed frankly cousin you have exposed your subject very well my congratulations my brother, frankly I understood everything you really opened my eyes and knowledge and I wanted to ask some questions, what will be the consequences if the proxy knows or retains my passwords and how to fix this problem, thank you in advance my brother Ahmed.
Hello Balu,
You can use the first method and manually configure a proxy in your browser.
Here is a list of French proxies: http://www.freeproxylists.com/fr/d1359276198.html
Thank you for your article! However, I still encounter the same problem: I live in Belgium and I want to see videos from French TV (rights are blocked for foreigners). So I used anonymox but unfortunately it doesn't offer an IP address in France… so I'm still stuck. Do you have an idea, a solution?
The thank you box
Thank you Ahmed for this wonderful article! but still I prefer to use proxy sites like airproxy82! Good proxy!
Hello,
If we do not enter any password while using a proxy, then the admin does not have access to our passwords (just to be sure that I understood) =)
Otherwise the article is good and quite clear. =D
A great article Ahmed, well done
Hello,
If a proxy is under HTTPS protocol, will it be able to see our passwords?
How do I know if a proxy is reliable?
Hello Yeahmen,
Yes indeed, even an HTTPS proxy can see all your passwords because they are received by the proxy in the clear before it encrypts them.
For reliable proxy; you can use the AnonymoX firefox addons as mentioned in the article!
yes even in https a proxy can see our password, https is a secure protocol allowing to authenticate and encrypt communications between the client and the server in order to avoid sniffers
Very good article, once again you have helped to choose a proxy. thanks a lot
This article is the best!
Thanks for this article!
